Abolish Property Taxes on Texas Homesteads: A Real Plan for Taxpayers
Texans are angry — and they should be. Despite a strong Texas economy and a record $26 billion surplus, spending is out of control. Senate Bill 1, the largest budget increase in Texas history, exploded government spending while leaving homeowners crushed under skyrocketing property taxes. The Austin swamp continues to waste your money on special interests, bloated budgets, and failed programs, including $313 million on a broken tech rollout and billions funneled to lobbyists and corporate giveaways.
Taxpayers deserve better. We need accountability, transparency, and an end to government waste. Abolishing property taxes on homesteads isn’t a dream — it’s a plan to return power to Texans and protect homeowners for good.
The Plan:
Use Surplus to Permanently Buy Down School Property Taxes
Over half of every property tax bill goes to schools. Use the surplus to replace local M&O taxes and phase them out entirely. Fund schools directly through the state to create a clear line of accountability and end the illusion that local taxes stay local.
Stop the Austin Swamp & Special Interests
Senate Bill 1 proved what happens when spending goes unchecked. Insiders and lobbyists benefit while taxpayers foot the bill. Cut off special interest deals and redirect every saved dollar to property tax relief.
Audit Every Dollar & Stop Broken Promises
Audit failed programs and the Texas Lottery. Lock all lottery proceeds to education and property tax relief — not bureaucratic overhead or political games. Redirect waste to give real relief to homeowners.
End Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying & Corporate Giveaways
Ban public funds from hiring lobbyists who fight against tax caps and transparency. Eliminate corporate giveaways unless they meet strict ROI standards for Texans.
Cap Appraisal Growth & Local Spending
Lower appraisal caps, limit local budget growth to inflation + population, and require plain-language ballot summaries for tax increases. Keep taxes predictable and protect homeowners from runaway bills.
Create a Property Tax Relief Lockbox
Establish a constitutional fund to lock surplus and windfall revenues (oil & gas, lottery, etc.) for permanent property tax reduction. Prohibit lawmakers from raiding it without voter approval.
The Bottom Line:
Texans see the truth: a booming economy, record surpluses, and Senate Bill 1’s massive spending increase — while property taxes continue to rise. Taxpayers are angry, and we should be.
It’s time to stop electing people who stop listening. Demand accountability. Vote for change. Vote to end homestead property taxes and take power back from the Austin swamp.
